LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE SUMMER WORKSHOP 2009

L = M x T

landscape = material x time

the course

the summer workshop is devoted to contemporary landscape architectural issues, focusing on the critical themes of material and time in landscape. The course is based upon teaching innovative landscape architectural skills through observation, drawing, and design, focusing on the temporal qualities of landscape. The course combines site visits, tutorials, lectures, workshops, and presentations to invited guests. During the workshop, each student will develop their own work, investigating and exploring a landscape theme of personal interest. The workshop uses different media and techniques in each week of the workshop, allowing the students to develop their own personal interests in a supportive environment. In week one we examine material and depth, week two material and time, week three duration and space. During the course we plan to visit a number of historic English Landscapes, including Blenheim Palace, Rousham and Hidcote Gardens, where you can see key events in the developing history of landscape architecture in England, and so put your own work in context. A certificate of completion will be presented to all students who satisfactorily complete the course.

The workshop is open to a wide range of applicants, from architecture students who wish to pursue an interest in landscape, to students or practioners in landscape or related fields who wish to explore new possibilities in landscape architecture.
